Fowler Wins Flight at Alabama Women’s Amateur

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rising sophomore Stephenie Fowler wrapped up a successful Alabama Women's Amateur Championship on Friday with a win in Championship Flight 1 at the Country Club of Birmingham.
"I am very proud of Stephenie," head coach Ryan Ashburn said. "She has been working hard on certain aspects of her game this summer and you can tell that it is paying off. I think this will be a great confidence boost as we near the end of the summer to start our fall season."
Fowler opened the stroke play competition with an 80 on Wednesday. She won her first round of match play 6 & 5 on Thursday and then defeated Alexis Berger of Alabaster on Friday 1-up to claim the title.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to play in this tournament," Fowler said. "Playing match play in practice really helped build my confidence. The course was in great shape and I had a lot of fun."
Fowler competed in three events as a freshman and posted a career-best 75 (+3) in her first collegiate event.
