Track and Field Groundbreaking Rescheduled For Friday, June 15th

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB Athletics has rescheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for Friday, June 15^th at 1 p.m. The celebration event is free and open to the public.
Construction on the track is scheduled to start in the upcoming weeks and the Blazers are expected to have their new home for the start of the 2019 outdoor season.

The facility will have a Mondo track surface with eight lanes each being 48 inches in width. The track also features dual straights with discus, javelin and shot put throwing spaces on the infield. The hammer cage and jumps will be located just outside the oval track.

Located adjacent to the renovations that are currently taking place at BBVA Compass Field, the new track will be capable of hosting NCAA, conference and high school level meets. The two facilities will share a common pressbox, concessions stand, bathrooms and ticket booth.
