UAB Hosts Middle Tennessee in Crucial Regular Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With a spot in the Conference USA Tournament on the line for both teams, the UAB baseball team welcomes Middle Tennessee to Young Memorial Field to close out the regular season. The Blazers will play Thursday and Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the series finale and Senior Day slated for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Quick Hitters
- UAB (20-29, 12-15) sits in eighth place entering the final weekend of league play. The Blazers will need to win the series to secure a spot in the C-USA Tournament field.
- Tanner Graham is scheduled to make his 13th start of the season on Friday. The junior ranks 12th in the league in ERA with a 3.43 mark and is one of 10 pitchers to not give up a triple this season.
- Stephen Dobbs has proven that trying to steal on him is not an option as the catcher's 17 runners caught stealing leads the conference.
- Thomas Johns was swinging a hot bat at Jacksonville State on Tuesday night as he finished the night with a career-high three hits, highlighted by a solo shot in the eighth inning and his second career stolen base.
- Carter Pharis seems to be hitting his best at the right time as the junior has moved into the lead for highest batting average on the team, hitting .303 with 14 doubles, a triple, five home runs and a team-high 30 RBI.
Scouting Middle Tennessee
- Middle Tennessee (25-26-1, 10-16-1) enters the weekend in 10th place in the league standings, but are within striking distance of the Blazers for the final spot in the C-USA Tournament.
- Aaron Aucker leads the offense, hitting a conference-best 65 RBI and is tied for second in home runs with 13. His .345 batting average is 10th among league leaders.
- The Blue Raiders will send Jake Wyrick to the mound on Friday. Wyrick has a 3.44 ERA in league play over 49.2 innings pitched and has won his last three series-opening starts.
