BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior R.J. Keur of the UAB men's golf team is set to participate at NCAA Regionals this week, May 14-16, in Kissimmee, Fla., hosted by the University of Central Florida at Reunion Resort.
For a second-consecutive year, Keur was one of 45 golfers nationally to qualify as an individual as he begins his quest for a national title which culminates in Stillwater, Okla., at the NCAA National Championship, May 25-30.
Keur is one of five individual golfers that qualified for the Kissimmee Regional along with 14 teams. The top five teams and the next lowest score not on one of those five teams will advance to nationals hosted by Oklahoma State.
"R.J. has a tremendous opportunity this week in Kissimmee," head coach Mike Wilson said. "If he continues to play the consistent golf we have seen from him all season long he'll have a chance to advance onto nationals."
Keur participated in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional last season and finished 17th overall. The First Team All-Conference USA selection is coming off a sixth-place finish at the C-USA Championship as well as winning both of his match play rounds.
Keur enters NCAA Regionals with the fourth lowest stroke average in school history at 71.5 and is currently one of three golfers at UAB to have an average under 72 for a season, along with Graeme McDowell and Zack Sucher.
This is the eighth-straight year the Blazers have had representation in the NCAA Tournament.
