Seniors Close Season on High Note

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A 304 team score and tournament-best 14 birdies in the final round gave the UAB women's golf team a 12th place finish at the C-USA Championship held at The Verandah Club on Wednesday.
The Blazers' 304 was the sixth-lowest team-score of the season.
"We played better each day," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "The poor round at the start made it difficult to make up. I was proud of all of the girls for never giving up and working toward getting better until the very end."
Maria Donado led the Blazers for the eighth time this season as she finished in a tie for 40th with a 76 (+4) final round. The junior made the turn at one-under par, marking the second consecutive day she turned in an at or even par first nine.
Juliana Sebastian turned in her third lowest score of the season with a 74 (+2) in her final collegiate round and finished in a tie for 47th. After a double-bogey on the first hole, the senior rebounded are fired off four birdies, two on each nine.
Sydney Snodgrass dropped a shot from the second round with a closing round 79 (+7) to finish one stroke back of Sebastian and in a tie for 49th.
Kenna Hughes and Kayla Wilbourn both finished tied for 52nd. Hughes, like Sebastian, made the turn at one-over before slipping up on the final stretch to shoot a 78 (+6). Wilbourn fired her second-lowest round of the season with a 76 (+4) in her final round for the Blazers.
UTSA took home the team title carding a 288 in the final round to finish 13 strokes ahead of second place UTEP. The Roadrunners also swept the individual tournament as Julie Houston edged teammate Ana Gonzales with a four-under par 212 tournament total.
Sebastian, Snodgrass and Wilbourn all competed in their final rounds for UAB on Wednesday. The trio combined for 287 rounds and posted 180 rounds in the 70s or lower in their four years.
In the classroom they have received a total of seven Conference USA Academic Medal's and have placed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll 12 times. The trio is slated to graduate at the end of April with Sebastian and Wilbourn receiving their degrees in exercise science and Snodgrass in accounting.
