Birmingham, Ala. – The UAB men's golf team shot its lowest individual round since 2015's Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (268) with a -13 (275) to close out the Stitch Intercollegiate with a fourth place result.
The Blazers entered the day at -4 and in sixth place but were able to vault their way up the leaderboard behind the play of a lineup that saw all five golfers finish their final round under par.
The fourth place finish tied for the best of the season (Palmetto Intercollegiate) while the three day cumulative score easily surpassed the low mark set previously of 856 (Palmetto).
"Best round of the season. A total team effort and really proud of the way we finished," head coach Mike Wilson said.
Junior John Hayden turned in the low UAB round for the day at 68 (-4) and moved up ten spots in the standings following his final round to post his second top-20 finish (T16). At three-under par (213) for the tournament, Hayden picked up his lowest tournament score for the year.
The Trio of R.J. Keur (T16), Murray Naysmith (T23) and Nick Robillard (T27) all finished at -3 (69). Robillard's round was his low mark for the year, helping place all five UAB golfers in the top 30.
"Nick had his best finish as a team member and to be bogey free is quite the accomplishment. I am proud of everyone's effort," Wilson said.
William Walker III wrapped up the tournament with another superb outing, firing a -1 (71) and finished in a tie for 11th place.
Ray Kraivixien of Campbell wrapped up the individual title at -13.
No. 29 Duke (-36) garnered the top team honor, followed by No. 28 Wake Forest (-30) and No. 35 NC State (-20).
The Blazers return to the links April 22-25 for the Conference USA tournament in Texarkana, Ark.
