UAB Drops Non-Conference Game at Chattanooga, 3-1

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UAB softball team fell on the road Wednesday night to Chattanooga 3-1 at Frost Stadium.
The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Mocs loaded the bases with nobody out. Chattanooga scored twice to take a 2-0 lead before the Blazer defense held up and made two outs at the plate to limit the damage.
UAB (15-26-1) scored its lone run in the top of the fifth when Megan Smith hit a bloop single to center and advanced to second on an error to lead off the inning. Ashton Clem then laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Smith to third before Destini England drove her home for the score.
Chattanooga (20-22) tacked on its third and final run in the bottom half of the fifth, taking a 3-1 lead.
Megan Smith (2-1) got the start in the circle for UAB and threw four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out two Mocs. Claire Blount also saw work in the pitcher's circle, tossing two innings and giving up a run on two hits.
Celie Hudson pitched a complete-game for UTC, surrendering a run on three hits and striking out three UAB batters.

UAB will host WKU in Conference USA action starting with a doubleheader on Friday at Mary Bowers Field. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 3 p.m. CT with Game 2 beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1. The Blazers and Hilltoppers wrap up the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
