BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team puts its four-match winning streak on the line this weekend when it heads to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the Conference USA Shootout on March 30-31.
UAB (11-6, 0-2) will play two matches on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. against Rice before facing off with UTSA at 2 p.m. The Green and Gold will conclude the weekend with a 10 a.m. date with Southern Miss.
The Blazers are coming off two impressive home wins, defeating Jackson State, 6-1, on March 24 before down sweeping in-state foe Alabama A&M, 7-0, to cap off the perfect weekend. UAB is now a perfect 7-0 at home with one match in Birmingham remaining.
Sophomore Tim Dollman powers the Blazers in singles play with a dominant 13-2 record coming in the No. 1 spot. He is also 11-3 in doubles with partner Stefan Gonzalez. Fellow sophomore Giovani Pasini has been extremely consistent in singles play as well, recording eight-straight wins to put him at 10 overall on the year.
In doubles play, Anru Fourie and Kenton Parton have helped the Green and Gold to a 31-14 mark with a 10-4 overall record, including going 9-3 at the No. 3 spot this year.
UAB is seeking its first Conference USA win of the season when it squares off with its three conference foes.
The Blazers last squared off with UTSA and Rice in the 2016-17 season. The Green and Gold were victorious against the Roadrunners, 4-2, in last season's edition of the C-USA Showdown before falling to the Owls, 4-0.
The team split the season series with Southern Miss, winning 4-2 on March 12 in the C-USA showdown before falling to the Golden Eagles, 4-0, in the regular-season finale. UAB looks to perform well against Southern Miss as the pair will meet again on April 14 in Birmingham.
