BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After nearly two weeks since its last competitive match, the UAB men's tennis team will return to the friendly confines of the UAB Tennis Courts as it hosts Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Lipscomb on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Blazers (5-5, 0-1) are coming off weekend split when it dropped matches against Drake and Illinois State before earning two 4-3 decisions against George Washington and Omaha.
UAB was led by sophomore Tim Dollman in Iowa, who finished with three singles victories, two of which were match clinchers, and three doubles victories with his partner, Stefan Gonzalez. After the weekend, Dollman improved to 7-1 in singles play and 6-2 in doubles.
For his heroics, he was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, the first Blazer to earn the recognition since Chris Helliar was named Player of the Week on April 1, 2014 and the 12th player in program history to win the conference's weekly award.
Kenton Parton, Giovani Pasini and Tom el Safadi have all earned three wins in singles play this season, while Anru Fourie and Nikolai Manchev has each claimed two.
The doubles tandem of Fourie and Parton has also been strong for the Blazers this year, posting a 6-3 record, with five of those wins coming at the No. 3 position.
Saturday's match with EKU will be the first competitive dual match that the programs will play in. However, the two programs most recently had athletes compete during the fall campaign at the PRC Collegiate Invite. UAB and Lipscomb last met on Jan. 28, 2017 with the Blazers emerging victorious, 6-1.
Admission to both matches is free to all fans and free pizza will be provided, while supplies last.
