UAB Topples Eastern Kentucky, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team took control of the match early and never looked back as the Blazers took care of Eastern Kentucky 7-0 on Saturday at the UAB Tennis Courts.

The Blazers (6-5, 0-1) have now won three-straight matches dating back to Feb. 17 and are a perfect 4-0 at home this season.

UAB cruised in doubles play early in the match, using a 6-1 win from Henry Paiste and Giovani Pasini on Court 2 and a 6-2 win from Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez on Court 1 to take the early 1-0 lead.

Gonzalez secured the Blazers' second point of the day, topping Parth Aggarwal of EKU 6-3, 6-1 on Court 2 to go up 2-0 in the match. Tim Dollman then earned his eighth singles victory of the year on Court 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ramon van Flymen to extend the Blazers' lead to 3-0.

Things got interesting on Court 3 as Kenton Parton found himself down a set and facing match point in set two against Guillem Sanchis. However, the junior showed great poise in his match and won set two 7-5 before ultimately claiming the final set to clinch the match for UAB, 4-0.

Senior Anru Fourie found himself in a very similar situation, dropping the first set of his match on Court 4 and facing five match points against Gabriel Ruiz before coming back to win claim UAB's fifth point of the day, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Pasini and Tom el Safadi closed out the day with two wins on Courts 5 and 6, winning 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-4, respectively, to seal the Blazers' 7-0 win.

UAB returns to action on Sunday as the Blazers host Lipscomb at the UAB Tennis Courts with the first serve slated for 2 p.m. Admission to the match is free and free pizza will be available while supplies last.
