BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team continues its road swing in the Sunshine State as the Blazers get set to play Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
UAB (7-6, 0-2) is looking to claim its first road win of the season after dropping its first five matches away from the friendly confines of the UAB Tennis Courts this year.
The Blazers are coming off a tough match against Florida Atlantic, falling to the Owls, 4-2. All six of the contested points came in singles play, which was played first due to the threat of severe weather. Doubles was ultimately cancelled in the match due to FAU clinching the overall victory.
UAB's two wins on the day came from senior Stefan Gonzalez and sophomore Giovani Pasini. Gonzalez took care of the Owls' Jason Legall 6-4, 6-2, on Court 2 to knot the match up at 1-1 and earn his third singles victory of the season, while Giovani Pasini claimed UAB's only other took down Thomas Bugeaud, 6-4, 7-6.
Tim Dollman continues to be the most reliable Blazer this year, posting a 9-2 record in singles play on Court 1 and an 7-3 record with Gonzalez in doubles play. Kenton Parton and Anru Fourie lead the team in doubles with an 8-3 record, with seven of the wins coming in the No. 3 position.
Florida Gulf Coast (4-6, 0-1) has won four of its last six matches and is currently undefeated at home. Felipe Ramirez has been the Eagles' top player, posting an 11-10 mark in singles with a 4-6 record at the No. 1 spot.
The two programs last met on March 22, 2014, with the Blazers emerging victorious in Fort Myers with a 4-3 win.
