MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Yale on Saturday afternoon at the O'Connor Tennis Center in its final game of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
Jana Hecking and Megan Bertrands turned in a 6-3 victory over Lauren Gillinov and Caroline Amos at No. 3, but Yale posted wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to claim the point and build a 1-0 lead.
Dominika Hrabalova won the second set 6-3 over Caroline Amos at No. 5 but was unable to continue playing for the point when the match was stopped. Sophomore Marlene Herrmann had a 5-4 lead in the second set at No. 2 before play was called.
The Bulldogs took the points at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 en route to the win.
"We had one of the worst starts we've had all season, but we showed some character in making a run at the end," UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "I take responsibility for our slow start, it was poor coaching on my part as I got away from our philosophy. We learned so much from this event and amazing weekend."
UAB returns to the court on Sunday, March 4 at 10 a.m. when the Blazers host EKU from George Ward Park.
