Blazers Complete Day One of C-USA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Blazers had a strong showing in day one of the Conference USA Indoor Championships Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
UAB had two athletes qualify for the finals in three events tomorrow as Ali Meister will run in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and will compete in the Long Jump final. Marielle Lewis will run in the 800-meter final.
UAB scored in two events as Sarah Livett placed eighth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 17:39.46 and scored a point. The Distance Medley Relay team of Rebecca Evans, Lauren Capone, Lewis and Bethan Evans finished fifth and took home four points.
Blazer Highlights
- Lewis ran the 800 in 2:14.47
- Meister ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.97 seconds
- Meister also finished ninth in the Long Jump with a height of 5.36 meters and advanced to the finals

"We competed and performed about where we were ranked coming into the meet in almost all of the events. I saw our team compete very hard today. However, this is a very tough conference and we need to be better," Thomas said. "We have some scoring opportunities tomorrow and need to take advantage of those events. Ali hurdled well and advanced to the final tomorrow. Marielle raced well in the 800m and is in the final tomorrow. Sarah Livett had a great kick and scratched out an important point in the 5000m today. The DMR raced so well in a loaded field and came away with 5th place. We are very proud of the way they raced. We have some opportunities in the triple jump, the hurdles, 800m and the 4x4 to get some points and we have to be focused and ready to be at our best to do that."
