Walker Shoots Five Under on Final Day of Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore William Walker carded Sunday's second lowest round and the second lowest round of his career by shooting a five under 65 and finished the Gator Invitational at -3 to lead the Blazers at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Walker tied for 12th place overall and after his opening round of three over, he finished with consecutive rounds under par with a 69 yesterday and a 65 today (73-69-65 = 207, -3).
"William had a very impressive final round and played really well all weekend," head coach Mike Wilson said. "He battled some injuries in the fall but is now fully healthy and proved this weekend that he's one of the top golfers in the nation."
In a field of 16 schools which featured five teams ranked inside the Golfstat top 30, the Blazers finished 11th overall by shooting 19 over par (285-285-289 = 859, +19).
Walker was the only UAB player to shoot under par and was followed by R.J. Keur who tied for 48th place overall. Keur entered the day at +2 with back-to-back 71s, but was hindered by a final round of 75 and finished the tournament at +7 overall.
Both Murray Naysmith (75-69-76 = 220) and John Hayden (70-76-74 = 220) shot +10 and tied for 58th overall, while freshman John Racciatti finished 83rd overall (71-81-75 = 227, +17).
As a team, No. 5 Vanderbilt ran away with the title by shooting a collective -18, while No. 6 Florida took second place at -9 and No. 25 USF third at -5.
Individually, Hayden Buckley of Missouri shot the low round of the tournament with a 64 on Sunday which propelled him to victory at -8.
UAB now turns its attention to the Palmetto Intercollegiate in two weeks which is set for March 5-6 in Aiken, S.C.
