BIRMINGHAM – The (RV) UAB women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Montgomery to face Alabama State. Tipoff between the Blazers and Hornets is set for 3 p.m. at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
UAB is coming off a 91-48 win over McNeese State on Dec. 8. Deanna Kuzmanic and Katelynn Thomas both tallied double doubles in the victory, as the Blazers poured in a season high in points. Kuzmanic recorded her first career double double with 10 points and a career high 11 assists. She is the only player on the team to score in double figures every game this season. Thomas finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for her second career double double.
UAB (8-1) is led by Rachael Childress in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game. The Moulton, Ala., native ranks seventh nationally in 3-point field goals per game (3.8) and 10th in 3-point field goals made (33). As a team, UAB ranks 14th in the NCAA in 3-point field goals per game (9.8), while boasting the 10th best scoring margin (+25.1).

Individually, Miyah Barnes ranks sixth in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.8) and eighth in assists per game (6.7).
On the defensive side of the ball, the Blazers rank second nationally in 3-point field goal defense, holding teams to a mere 19.1 percent from long range. UAB has held five of its nine opponents to three 3-pointers or less.
Alabama State has started the season 1-7 and is in the midst of a two game losing skid. The Hornets are averaging 48.5 points per game, while shooting 33.5 percent (128-of-382) from the field.
Freshman Ayana Emmanuel leads the Hornets in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per contest. She netted a career high 22 points against Samford, which sparked a four game streak of finishing in double figures.
