UAB Heads to Huntsville for In-State Showdown with Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM β Coming off a gritty victory over Canisius in its AdvoCare Invitational finale, the UAB men's basketball team will play its fourth-straight neutral site game on Thursday at 7 p.m. when it makes the short drive up I-65 to meet up with Alabama A&M at the Von Braun Civic Center.

The teams will meet on a neutral floor for the second consecutive season after playing last year's matchup at Legacy Arena and will meet for the first time ever in Huntsville.

UAB (4-2) will be carrying some momentum into the Rocket City after defeating Canisius, 68-58, to close out the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando. Sophomore Zack Bryant led the way for the Blazers with a career-high 26 points and seven steals. Jeremiah Bell added a career-best 15 points in that victory to compliment a 11-point effort by Jalen Perry.

The Blazers have relied on their defense early on in the season, which ranks 71st in the NCAA and 4th in C-USA in scoring defense, allowing just 65.8 points per game. Additionally, the Blazers rank 56th in the nation in turnovers forced (16.67) and 64th in steals per game (8.2).

Rebounding has been another key component of the team's game, out-rebounding its opponents by a margin of 6.5, good for 61st in the NCAA. The Blazers have also been good on the offensive glass with 15.0 boards per contest, ranked 31st nationally.

Alabama A&M (0-6) is seeking its first win of the season and is coming off a 77-46 loss to Fordham on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs are led by Jalen Reeder and Andre Kennedy, who are averaging 12.5 and 11.2 points per game, respectively.

The Blazers are a resounding 11-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, with the last meeting coming last season, a 90-58 victory for UAB, in the BHM Jam. Furthermore, the Blazers are a dominant 53-0 all-time against opponents from the SWAC, including a 9-0 mark under head coach Robert Ehsan.
