BIRMINGHAM – Former UAB goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty has once again received recognition for her record-breaking senior season as she has been named the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team goalkeeper, the national organization announced.
Daugherty is the first Blazer to earn All-Region honors since Marie Yempuku earned Second Team All-Region recognition under the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
"This is a well-deserved honor and award for Kelsey," head coach Erica Demers said. "She has been an outstanding player and person in our program and one that we will miss. I am glad she is leaving on an individual high with achieving this award."
The honor adds to her growing list of postseason awards after she was named the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Year, the first keeper in program history to garner that award, while also claiming First Team All-Conference honors. Additionally, she was recognized for her academic achievements with a spot on the C-USA All-Academic First Team.
Daugherty was a force for UAB in goal, recording 92 saves in 2018, tied for seventh in program history for a single season, while her .836 save percentage is the second best on the single season list.
She made history against Southern Miss when she broke the career record for saves, topping the previous record of 341, which was held by Kate Blankenship (2007-10). She finished her career with 351 saves.
The Kennesaw, Georgia, native earned two Goalkeeper of the Week honors during her senior season. The first came after a career-best 11-save performance against Memphis and following the Southern Miss game. She finished her career with seven weekly honors, the most of any player in program history.
