UAB Softball Announces 2019 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM – Featuring several marquee matchups throughout the non-conference and conference slate, the UAB softball team released its 2019 schedule on Tuesday afternoon.
The Blazers open the season at home against the University of North Alabama on February 7th at 6 p.m. before welcoming Wright State, Austin Peay and UL-Monroe to Mary Bowers Field for the UAB Tournament. The tournament runs from Feb. 8-10th.
Following the opening weekend, UAB will play in three more regular-season tournaments at Auburn for the Plainsman Invitational (Feb. 14-17th), the Citrus Classic in Orlando (Feb. 22-24th) and the Bulldog Classic in Athens, Ga., (March 1-2nd). Auburn, Texas Tech, Iowa, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Georgia are just a few of the premier matchups early in the season.
UAB will square off against four teams from the SEC beginning with Alabama at home on February 27th. The Green and Gold then plays Georgia on March 1st and 2nd before facing Alabama again on April 3rd in Tuscaloosa. The Blazers play Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. on April 10th and welcomes Mississippi State to Mary Bowers Field on April 16th.
The first home Conference USA matchup is against Louisiana Tech on March 16-17th, with the remaining league games at home coming against UTEP (March 30-31st), Southern Miss (April 13-14th) and North Texas (April 27-28th).
The Blazers are on the road in C-USA action against UTSA (March 9-10th), Florida Atlantic (March 23-24th), Middle Tennessee (April 5-6th) and close out the regular-season at Charlotte (May 4-5th).
For the first since 2012 and for the second time in program history, UAB will host the Conference USA softball tournament on May 8-11th.
UAB enters the 2019 season returning five starters and its top two pitchers from last year's squad that went 26-32-1 overall and 15-8-1 in league play. The Blazers won the western division and finished second overall in Conference USA in 2018.

Gold Card
For tickets, UAB fans have the opportunity to purchase a Gold Card which allows access to six different sports, including softball, baseball and women's basketball throughout the upcoming season.
A single admission Gold Card is $65, while a dual admission card can be purchased for $120, admission for three is $165, and a 4-pack of Gold Cards is $200. Fans who purchase a Gold Card will be given a membership card they show to gain admission into each specific event. Fans can purchase a Gold Card at the UAB Athletics Ticket Office located at Bartow Arena, or by calling 205-975-UAB1.

- UAB's schedule consists of 51 total games.
- The Blazers are scheduled to play 22 regular-season home contests.
- There are 19 true road games and 10 neutral-site games on the slate this season.
- UAB will play 10 teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2018 (Auburn, Drake, Notre Dame, Fordham, Alabama, Georgia, Jacksonville State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Middle Tennessee).

- The Green and Gold return nine letterwinners from a year ago, including Natalie Erwin who earned NFCA All-Region and C-USA First Team honors last season. Destini England returns after earning C-USA Second Team honors in 2018.
- UAB returns its top two pitchers from 2018 in Emily Kachel and Claire Blount. Kachel won 14 games and was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team a year ago.
- The Blazers welcome nine newcomers to the team with three transfers (Jenna Olszewski from Auburn, Dylinn Stancil from Ole Miss and Debora Fernanda from Chipola College) and six freshmen (Reece Martin, Faith Hegh, Sarah Cespedes, Sierra Frazier, Sadie Frazier and Charley Clark).
