UAB Prepares for Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team will participate in the Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational beginning on Friday.
The event, hosted by the University of Alabama, will feature participants from UAB, Alabama, Belmont, East Tennessee State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss and Tulane.
"We are very excited about playing in the Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational," head coach Derek Tarr said. "The competition will be very challenging and the hospitality is always first-class."
Giovani Pasini, Fernando Vargas, Nikolai Manchev and Tom el Safadi will take part in the singles draw, with sophomore Brian Akhtar joining for doubles.
The Blazers are coming off of a four-win performance at the ITF Futures event at Highland Park in Birmingham in which Manchev, Akhtar and Daniel Janko each claimed victories for the Green and Gold.
