UAB Completes Play at Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, claiming six victories in the event.
The tournament, hosted by the University of Alabama, featured 13 schools competing in six separate singles and doubles brackets.
In the Crimson Singles bracket, junior Giovani Pasini fell in the first round before advancing over Kentucky's Fabian Penzkofer via walkover.
Junior Nikolai Manchev, the No. 1 seed in the Houndstooth Singles bracket, notched two wins and advanced to the semifinals before falling to Max Rebol (Samford), 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. Manchev's two victories came against Kentucky's Arthur Chen (6-3, 6-4) and Mieszko Kwasniewski (Southern Miss), 6-4, 6-4.
Tom el Safadi paced the Green and Gold in victories with three, defeating Sebastian Rios (Ole Miss), 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Houndstooth Singles bracket. El Safadi claimed two more victories in the back draw, defeating Alabama's Sam Fischer (6-3, 5-7, 10-8) and Tulane's Eric Wagner (0-6, 6-4, 11-9).
UAB returns to the courts on Nov. 12-14 in Pensacola, Fla. for an ITF Futures event, its final tournament before the calendar flips to 2019.
