BIRMINGHAM - Led by senior John Hayden, the UAB men's golf team finished ninth at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Alabama at Old Overton Country Club.
The Blazers ended up falling one spot on the final day of competition. UAB started the day eight-over through the first three holes, but righted the ship and played even par throughout the final 15 holes.
UAB was +29 overall for the tournament (283-298-288 = 869, +29) and had its best round to open the tournament at +3.
Hayden recorded his second top-20 finish of the season by tying for 16th place at +2. Hayden shot even par in Tuesday's final round and had UAB's low round of the tournament with a three-under 67 during Monday's opening round.
Junior Sam Goldasich was UAB's second place finisher as he tied for 33rd overall, and moved 14 spots during the final round with a two-under 68. Starting on hole 10, Goldasich caught fire down the stretch of the back nine with birdies on 14, 16, 17 and 18, and finished his round with five birdies and three bogeys overall.
John Snoddy (+12) tied for 42nd overall, while William Walker III (+13) and Nick Robillard (+14) were 44th and 47th, respectively.
Alabama (-12) won the tournament and held off Arkansas (-11) by one stroke. Auburn (-5), BYU (-1) and Charlotte (+2) rounded out the top five.
Individual honors went to Arkansas' Julian Perico who led the tournament from start-to-finish and finished -13 overall (64-65-68 = 197).
It is a quick turnaround for the Blazes as they will be in action beginning next Monday at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech in Ruston.
