PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii – The UAB men's golf team shot a collective 10 under par and are currently in third place after the opening 18 holes at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Hawaii.
Dating back to the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, this is the third straight round the Blazers have shot -10. UAB enters the second round five shots behind No. 11 Pepperdine who leads the field at -15, and two shots behind No. 37 Ole Miss (-12).
"This was a great start for our guys," head coach Mike Wilson said. "For William [Walker III] to play bogey free golf was very impressive and John Hayden was solid once again. I'm proud of the team effort and look forward to round two. We need to keep making birdies and we have a chance to win another tournament."
William Walker III is currently tied for second place after shooting -6 in his opening round. Walker's round was highlighted by an eagle on five, and he also carded four birdies and no bogeys. He is one shot behind the leader, Joe Seiple of Ole Miss, heading into Monday.
Hayden is tied for 12th after a three-under 69. Hayden had seven birdies and four bogeys in his round.
Redshirt freshman John Snoddy also continued his strong play and carded a two-under 70 which has him tied for 16th. Nick Robillard's round of +1 rounded out the team score for the Blazers. He is tied for 52nd after the opening 18 holes.
The Blazers will be paired with Pepperdine, Ole Miss and Purdue in the second round, which begins Monday morning at 8 a.m. local time and 12 p.m. CST. Fans can click here for live results.
