Blazers Pick Up Conference Win in Match at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A first and second individual finish from Michael Dietz and Sophia Flores lifted the No. 19 UAB rifle team to a first place finish over The Citadel and Wofford in Saturday's dual match.
The Blazers fired a 4,585 team aggregate total to edge The Citadel by 60 points and gave the Blazers their first SoCon win of the season.
"I am extremely proud of their performance this week," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "It was a total team effort today. Scores continue to improve and I could not be more proud of them."
Dietz fired a 575 Smallbore total and a 584 in the Air Rifle competition for a 1,159 aggregate total to take home individual honors as he paced UAB for the third consecutive week.
Flores shot a 571 in Smallbore and a 582 in Air for a 1,153 aggregate total and a second place finish.
Zoe Lum, Holly Hayes and Ben Vogrin rounded out the Blazers in the top-10. Lum shot a 1,137 aggregate total for a fourth place finish, Vogrin shot a a 1,128 aggregate total as he finished seventh, while Hayes turned in a 1,122 aggregate score to finish eighth.
The Blazers return on Saturday, Oct. 27 with a match at North Georgia.
