UAB Travels to Play Four-Time Defending C-USA Champion WKU on Friday

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a 2-1 homestand, the UAB volleyball team hits the road this weekend to battle four-time defending Conference USA Champion Western Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Blazers knocked off Marshall in straight sets and took down UTEP in four to open the homestand with two victories before falling to UTSA in four sets. WKU enters the weekend with four-set wins over Marshall and Middle Tennessee.
"It'll be a great measuring tool for our team," head coach Amy Pauly said. "We'll be able to see what we have been improving on as Western Kentucky is very solid in terms of their volleyball IQ and skill overall. It'll be a good challenge and it is something we need to keep improving and moving forward as a team."
UAB (10-9, 2-3 C-USA) has been led through the first five games in league play on the offensive end by Abby Carlile, Emily Rudolph and Victoria Young, who have 48, 43 and 39 kills, respectively. Rudolph and Young have hit at a .330 and .342 clip over the five game span.
Rudolph has been a force at the net as well with 14 blocks and is averaging 0.82 blocks per set in C-USA action.
For the year, Carlile has 192 kills, Rudolph has 129 and Young checks in with 128. Rudolph leads the Blazers in blocks for the season with 63.
Keeping the offense in rhythm is setter Shelby Holderfield. The sophomore has tallied 666 assists and is third in Conference USA, averaging 10.25 assists per set. Holderfield is just 41 assists shy of 1,400 career assists.
The Hilltoppers (14-6, 5-1 C-USA) are led by Rachel Anderson who has 256 kills this season and is averaging 3.32 kills per set. Anderson also leads the team in blocks with 68, while Taylor Bebout paces the squad in assists with 597.
