Blazer Boosters Break Records in 2017 Thanks to Unprecedented Support

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Thanks to the generous support of UAB alumni and friends, the UAB Department of Athletics announced today that Blazer Boosters attained multiple records in 2017, including overall cash received and total number of donors.
As of December 31, 2017, Blazer Boosters again experienced a record year with cash received in support of UAB Athletics combining for a 2017 calendar year total surpassing $9.5 million. Annual student-athlete scholarship support added up to more than $1.6 million, and 1,841 generous Blazer Boosters members gave in support of UAB Athletics, an increase of 27 percent over the 2016 year.
Furthermore, UAB Athletics received the largest naming sponsorship in its history of $4.2 million from Legacy Community Federal Credit Union in collaboration with Blazer IMG Sports Marketing.
"The success of Blazer Boosters this year is just another example of the passion Blazer Nation has for UAB Athletics and the desire they have for us to continue to grow and succeed on a national stage," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "We are grateful for each and every donor that helped make 2017 such an exciting year in the history of this department."
"We are just scratching the surface on our potential," stated Brad Hardekopf, UAB Senior Associate Athletic Director. "Our fans and supporters do so much to help UAB student-athletes succeed during their time in Birmingham. We cannot thank them enough and look forward to continuing the momentum as we begin the 2018 year."
The mission of Blazer Boosters is to provide the financial support, through the UAB Athletics Foundation, for funding of student-athlete scholarships, capital projects and facility improvements, and the enhancement of sport specific operating budgets; in order to aid student-athletes in receiving a world-class education while fostering the growth of the Department of Athletics.
"There is something extremely special going on within UAB Athletics right now. Blazer Boosters members are continuing to raise the bar through their generosity and desire to see our student-athletes succeed in competition, the classroom, and the community," said recently appointed Associate Athletic Director for Development Trey Frazier.
