BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram announced Tuesday that Amy Pauly has been named the eighth head coach in Blazer volleyball history.
Pauly arrives in Birmingham following six successful seasons as the associate head coach under Villanova head coach Josh Steinbach. During that time, Pauly helped the Wildcats to 97 wins, an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015 and was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association 30 under 30 list in 2016, which honors up-and-coming volleyball coaches.
Under her guidance in 2017, Villanova earned one First Team All-Big East and one Second Team All-Big East selection. She was also instrumental in bringing in the first top-55 recruiting class in Villanova volleyball history.
"I am thrilled and honored to become the next head coach of the UAB volleyball program," Pauly said. "I want to thank Mark Ingram and everyone at UAB for trusting me to move the program forward and giving me the opportunity to return to Alabama. The minute I stepped on campus I felt at home. It was clear to me that UAB is a special place and I'm excited to get started."
Last season, Villanova had four players with over 200 kills and six with over 100. The Wildcats also had two players with over 300 digs and six with over 100. While at Villanova, Pauly coached every position on the court with an emphasis on the libero and pin attackers.
"We are thrilled to introduce Amy Pauly as our new head volleyball coach," Director of Athletics Mark Ingram said. "She has a proven track record of winning both as a player and a coach and will make an immediate impact for our current and future players. Her passion, high energy and knowledge for the game is undeniable and her familiarity with Birmingham and the surrounding Southeast is a major asset to hit the ground running in pursuit of bringing championships to UAB."
Prior to Villanova she was a graduate assistant at South Carolina and a collegiate player at Alabama. At South Carolina she was responsible for coordinating practice schedules, travel arrangements and served as the director for the Gamecocks' summer camps.
In her playing days at Alabama, Pauly was a libero for the Crimson Tide and reached three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. She still holds the Alabama record for digs in a career and a season, digs in a set and is fourth all-time on the Southeastern Conference's career digs list.
Pauly has also previously been the head coach for the South Carolina Midlands Club, where she guided them to a third-place finish at the Palmetto Regional. She was also the head coach of the East Coast Power Volleyball club in Philadelphia and the assistant coach of 1st Alliance in Chicago.
She graduated from Alabama in 2009 with a degree in Communications and received a Master's Degree in Sports and Entertainment Management from South Carolina in 2011.
