BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team closes out its season-opening three-game road swing on Sunday as the Blazers travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to open Conference USA play against Middle Tennessee.
Competition from the Adams Tennis Center will begin at 1 p.m. CST with doubles play.
The match will be the first of three regular-season conference tilts that the Blazers will compete in this season, with the Green and Gold also facing conference opposition in the Conference USA Shootout on March 30-31. UAB finished C-USA play last year at 2-2.
UAB is coming off two setbacks against SEC opposition last weekend as it fell to No. 14 Mississippi State 7-0 last Sunday and 4-0 at Alabama last Monday.
The Blazers' lone victory of the weekend came in doubles play against the Bulldogs on Sunday when Anru Fourie and Kenton Parton produced an impressive 6-2 win over the No. 41 Bulldog tandem of Floridan Broska and Giovanni Oradini.
Middle Tennessee is coming off its first defeat of the season, a tough 4-3 loss on the road at Vanderbilt on Friday. The Blue Raiders opened the season strong, posting 7-0 victories over Austin Peay and Chattanooga on Jan. 15.
In the last regular season meeting between the two programs, the Blue Raiders emerged victorious over the Blazers, taking the match 4-1 in Murfreesboro. The two squads also met this past fall at the Dale Short Shootout, where the Blazers claimed two singles victories and three doubles victories.
Live stats for Sunday's match will be provided by Middle Tennessee and can be found here.
