Dollman Shines as Blazers Fall to Middle Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team won its first doubles point of the 2017-18 campaign in convincing fashion but it was not enough as Middle Tennessee rattled off four-straight singles wins to top the Blazers 5-2 on Sunday.

Sophomore Tim Dollman also won the Blazers' first singles point of the season, topping Tom Moonen 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to claim UAB's only point in singles play.

Kenton Parton and Anru Fourie got things going early for the Green and Gold in doubles play, taking down Max Rauch and Nicolas Buitrago 6-4 to give the Blazers an advantage early on in the match.

The Blazers (0-3, 0-1) secured the doubles point with ease, as Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez cruised past Moonen and Chris Edge, 6-3, to put UAB ahead 1-0.

Middle Tennessee found its groove in singles play, winning the first four singles matches in straight-sets, including a 6-4, 6-3 win by Gian Issa over Giovani Pasini to clinch the match for the home side.

Nikolai Manchev found himself in a battle with Max Rauch on court six, winning the opening set 6-4. After dropping set two, 6-1, the sophomore gave it his all before dropping the final set to Rauch, 6-4.

The Blazers will play its first home matches of the season on Feb. 2 when the Green and Gold hosts the University of Alabama in Huntsville for two matches.
