BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team opens conference play this weekend with matches on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at Middle Tennessee and Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m at UTEP.
UAB currently sits seventh in Conference USA, ahead of both Middle Tennessee and UTEP.
UAB (6-9) had won three of its last four matches but has struggled away from home this season, as the Blazers are 0-3 in true road games and 0-7 overall on the road.
The Green and Gold are led on the court by a quartet of seniors. Haley Jared has started every match this season and is the team leader in kills and kills per set recording 3.21 kills per set for a total of 180 kills through the non-conference schedule.
The Alabama native's 3.21 clip ranks ninth in the conference.

Deshotel also sits fourth on the team in digs with 104. Petra Silic is fourth on the team in kills, 86, fourth in service aces, 7, second in blocks with 39 but is hitting .385 which leads the team and she records two kills per set.
Silic's .385 hitting percentage puts her third in the conference.
Middle Tennessee (4-10) is 0-1 at home and has lost its last two games. UTEP (3-10), much like UAB, has earned all of its wins at home this season, posting a 3-4 home record. However, the Miners have lost five straight going into this weekend.
