Madison, Wis. – The second day of the Badger Invitational saw several standout rounds from UAB golfers John Hayden (-4), John Racciatti (-3) and R.J. Keur (-2). The Blazers were unable to capitalize on these individual efforts, however, finishing at five over par (293) for the day and nine over for the tournament, placing UAB in sole possession of eighth place. Texas A&M (-16) continues to stretch their lead, followed by Marquette (-10), Kansas (-8), Notre Dame (-4) and Nevada (-2).
Racciatti carded a three under par (69) to lead the way in team competition. The freshman from Fairhope, Ala. bounced back from his opening round showing (+4) with a two under on his first nine holes. He led the way with six birdies and is among eight golfers tied for 25th.
Keur, meanwhile, capped off his round with a bogey-free final nine holes, which included a birdie on the par five sixth, considered one of the most challenging holes at University Ridge Golf Course. Now at one under for the tournament, Keur is one of six golfers tied for 18th place.
"(John) Racciatti had a great round and R.J. was very solid as well," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We need a complete team performance to get a good finish."
Hayden's 68 propelled him to a tie for eighth overall as the junior sits at three under through two days.
William Walker (+4) and Taylor Eyster (+6) also contributed to the final tally for UAB.
Chandler Phillips (Texas A&M) and Andy Spencer (Kansas) hold a tie for the first spot on the individual leaderboard at eight under.
The third and final day of the tournament resumes tomorrow with all six UAB golfers getting started at 9:30 a.m. Stats can be tracked via Birdiefire, while additional updates can be found on Twitter (@UAB_MGolf).
