Badger Invitational Results
Madison, Wis. – The opening tournament of the season came to a close Tuesday as the UAB Men's Golf team finished 10th at the Badger Invitational, shooting an aggregate 15-over par for the tournament. The Blazers turned in a 292 (+4) on day one, a 293 (+5) on day two and a 294 (+6) on day three.
Redshirt sophomore William Walker continued his solid start to the season by turning in a four-under 68. With a cumulative one-under par for the tournament, Walker finished tied for 21st among individual scores. He fell just short of a bogey-free round on Tuesday, tripping up on his 17th hole, but still led the way with five birdies on the day. Additionally, Walker paced the team with 13 birdies over the duration of his three rounds.
Senior R.J. Keur picked up where he left off at the end of last season and was steady each day, carding a 73 (+1), 70 (-2) and 72 (E), respectively. His one under finish also placed him in a tie for 21st.
"We had good individual performances throughout the tournament but we need to find a way to have consistency through 54 holes to be the team I know we're capable of being," coach Mike Wilson said.
The Blazers amassed 65 birdies throughout the tournament, which included 12 compiled by John Hayden (competing as an individual). At one-over par, Hayden finished in sole possession of 29th. His 68 in the second round matched Walker for the low score of the tournament among UAB golfers.
Making their college debut, freshmen John Racciatti and Nick Robillard showed promise, as Racciatti turned in a three-under on day two and tallied 12 birdies in his three rounds, while Robillard shot even par in round one. Racciatti finished the tournament at six over par and Robillard ended at +15. Taylor Eyster was 19 over.
Texas A&M never relinquished their lead after the opening day and took home the team title at 25-under, followed by Kansas (-19), Marquette (-17), Notre Dame (-14) and host Wisconsin (-4).
Chandler Phillips of Texas A&M carded the low score for individuals at 12-under par.
The Blazers return to the course in less than two weeks when they host the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate Sept. 25-26. Follow @UAB_MGolf on Twitter and like UAB.Blazers on Facebook for the latest updates.
