BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Rounding out the Hall of Fame Class of 2017 is arguably the best football player ever at UAB in wide receiver Roddy White.
An NFL star for the Atlanta Falcons and a UAB legend, White (2001-2004) had a professional stay that matched his stellar accomplishments as a Blazer.
The pinnacle of White's collegiate career occurred during the 2004 campaign, as the wide receiver ascended to the top of numerous school records for a single season. After hauling in 71 receptions (third) for 1,452 yards (second) and 14 touchdowns (first), White was tabbed an All-American by several publications, highlighted by first-team honors from Pro Football Weekly.
He also ranks among the best in school history in numerous other categories, including the second overall mark in career touchdowns (26), total receiving yardage in a single game (253 at Tulane, 2004), and career yards per reception (19.09).
White finished third overall in career receptions, pulling in 163, and concluded his UAB career with 12 games during which he eclipsed the century mark for receiving yards.
Following his time at UAB, White was one of the NFL's most consistent receivers as a member of the Atlanta Falcons from 2005-2015 and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection.
He was a prestigious first-team All-Pro selection in 2010 and is the Falcons' all-time leader in receptions (808), receiving yards (10,863), and receiving touchdowns (63).
"Not only is Roddy White one of the greatest to ever wear a UAB uniform, but he spent a decade as one of the top receivers in the NFL," said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "We are proud to have Roddy as a Blazer and couldn't be happier to have him join what is an outstanding Hall of Fame Class of 2017."
White joins four other former UAB standouts in the Hall of Fame Class of 2017, including Daniel Gaitan of men's soccer (1979-80), Deanna Jackson of women's basketball (1998-2002), Jerome Mincy of men's basketball (1982-86) and Mirela Vladulescu Booker of women's tennis (1997-2001).
The Class of 2017 was selected by a committee of former student-athletes and current UAB administrators based on criteria from the Hall of Fame Bylaws. The five selected recipients will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 13, prior to UAB's home football game vs. Middle Tennessee on Oct. 14.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held at The Club on 1 Robert S Smith Drive and is open to the public. Individual tickets are $100, while former student-athletes are $75. The option to purchase a table is also available for $800. Contact Blazer Boosters for more information about the banquet at 205-996-9969 or click here to purchase tickets.
