BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former UAB volleyball player Kirsten Gallagher was selected as one of the AVCA’s Thirty Under 30 award recipients. She received the award out of almost 200 nominees.
“I am so pleased to see the AVCA recognize Kirsten as one of the Thirty Under 30 recipients,” UAB volleyball head coach Kerry Messersmith said. “She is a hard-working and very talented beach (volleyball) coach.”
Gallagher, who is now an assistant beach volleyball coach at Georgia State, played under Messersmith from 2009-12 and is 10th in career attack percentage at UAB with a .247 mark.
“When she graduated, Hal and I were thrilled that she was considering coaching as a profession and I couldn’t be more excited for her now. This award speaks volumes for the direction and future of Kirsten as a coach.”
