Blazers Close Out Regular Season at Southern Miss

Meet Schedule
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s track and field team heads to Hattiesburg, Miss., for the Southern Miss Open. This is the last competition for the Blazers before the Conference USA Championships starting on May 11 in El Paso, Texas.
“Just like any other sport, during those last couple games, you’re trying to get a little more out of others, and some are doing pretty well and we’re just trying to keep them on track,” said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas. “We’re trying to get a look and see what we need to be at our best at conference championships. It’s a little bit different for everybody and we’re trying to find that middle ground for everyone.”
Marielle Lewis is one of a handful of Blazers trying to keep up impressive performances. The freshman will be running the 800 Meter Run and 400 Meter Hurdles in consecutive races in order to prepare for the similar setting C-USA Championships provide. This season, Lewis ranks 12th in the 800 Meter Run (2:13.99) and ninth in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:01.58).
Events start on Friday and will conclude on Saturday.
