BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's track & field goes back down to South Alabama for the second time this spring. The Blazers are set to compete in the South Alabama Invitational after opening up their spring slate at the Jaguar Classic a month ago. 18 teams are set to compete overall this weekend.
"We want to see more of a team effort," said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas regarding last weekend's performances at Auburn. "There were some athletes just off of having really good races. We're still building towards that. But the ones we're really relying on to perform in conference to score points are heading in the right direction. Their starting to get those races and those times we're looking for."
The Blazers will boast multiple athlete's strong chances to win across a number of events. One of the best chances UAB may have for a victory comes in the 200 Meter Dash with Shelbi White. White posted a career-best 24.77-time last week at the Tiger Track Classic. The junior has the 23rd-fastest time in Conference USA this season. White will face stern competition as Mississippi State and Southern Miss will have multiple competitors in the race.
The two-day meet begins later tonight and concludes tomorrow with the majority of the UAB athletes competing on the second day.
