UAB Softball Falls to No. 9 Alabama at Rhoads Stadium

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB softball team fell to No. 9 Alabama, 8-0, in five innings Tuesday night at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Alabama (36-7) was on the board first in the second inning when Merris Schroder tripled to center field and brought Peyton Grantham around for the score and the 1-0 lead.
A second run came when Carrigan Fain sent a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Schroder before a groundout to the pitcher ended the inning.
The Crimson Tide added four more runs in the third inning when Grantham sent a grand slam over the left field wall and brought the score to 6-0.
The final two runs of the game came in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a catcher’s interference to give the Crimson Tide the 8-0 win.
UAB (13-26) tallied three hits on the night. Danii Fernandez led the Blazers with two hits and Madison Millsaps added to the hit column with a single through the right side in the top of the fifth inning.
Cara Goodwin (2-10) suffered the loss for the Blazers in the circle. The senior from Cullman, Ala., gave up six runs on six hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
Madi Moore (4-1) captured the win for Alabama. She tossed the complete game and gave up only three hits in the shutout.
The Blazers return home April 14-15 as they host North Texas in a three-game conference series. A doubleheader will be played Friday with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. and the series finale will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
