UAB Softball Falls to No. 12 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The UAB softball team dropped its final game of the weekend to No. 12 Oklahoma, 15-0, at Marita Hynes Field in Norman, Okla.
Oklahoma (28-7, 0-0) struck in the first inning and plated two runs on a UAB error to take the quick 2-0 lead.
The Sooners put together a big inning in the second when they scored nine runs. The first run came when Kelsey Arnold scored on an error to make the score 3-0.
The next three runs came on bases loaded walks to extend the lead 6-0. A single off the bat of Nicole Pendley brought Sydney Romero and Shay Knighten around for the score.
Two more Sooners’ runs came on a UAB wild pitch and hit-by-pitch to make the score 11-0.
The third inning saw four Oklahoma runs. A double by Fale Aviu plated Knighten before Arnold sent a two-run shot to left-center to extend the Sooners’ lead to 14-0.
Romero singled through the left side to score Raegan Rogers for the final run of the third inning.
UAB (11-20, 3-3) recorded only one hit in Sunday’s matchup. Joanna Fallen singled through the left side in the top of the first inning.
Claire Blount (6-7) suffered the loss for the Blazers. The freshman gave up five earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.
Mariah Lopez (9-1) got the win for the Sooners in the circle. She only gave up one hit and recorded four strikeouts in three innings.
The Blazers will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to play Western Kentucky in a three-game conference series.
