BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s track & field team begins its 2017 outdoor schedule at the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., this weekend. The two-day event will start up Friday night with the men’s & women’s triple jump at 4:30 p.m.
“There is some different training that we’re getting into,” said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas. “Getting the girls ready for different races and events. Those athletes have to adapt to new workouts and new events.”
The Blazers most recently competed a month ago in the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Multiple athletes for UAB scored in the event and are eyeing continued improvement for the spring.
“We’ve had a good break and we’re trying to knock the rust off again,” said Thomas. “We’re just going to jump right into it and get the girls use to running on the outdoor track again. We’re not really holding back but we have a longer term plan for the Conference USA meet and bigger meets. The first two meets are getting us ready for it.”
