“I am proud of Juliana and her consistent play in the Amelia Island Collegiate,” head coach Kim Wilcox said. “She is very deserving of this award.”
After carding back-to-back two-over par 74s in the first two rounds on Monday, Sebastian shot a 75 in the final 18 holes to finish tied for 18th. The junior’s 148 36-hole score and 223 54-hole score were both career lows. Overall, she finished the tournament at seven over par.
Her efforts helped lead UAB to a 16th place finish including a 304 in the final round, the Blazers fifth lowest 18-hole score of the season, in the first tournament of the spring slate.
The Columbia, S.C., native is the first UAB golfer to receive the award since Kayla Wilbourn was named Co-Golfer of the Week in October 2014.
Sebastian also becomes the third UAB student-athlete to garner conference honors this week joining Rachael Childress of the women’s basketball team and Garrett Whitlock of the baseball team to receive Player of the Week awards.
The UAB women’s golf team returns to the course March 11-12 with a trip to Phoenix, Ariz. to compete in the Grand Canyon Invitational. For more information on the UAB women’s golf team follow them on Twitter (@UAB_WGolf).
