Distance Runners Make Mark on Day One

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s track and field team had severely quality performances on the first day of the 2017 Conference USA Indoor Championships, hosted by the Blazers and the Birmingham CrossPlex. The distance runners particularly running well with multiple qualifying for the finals on Sunday, February 19.
Hannah Coffin and Rebecca Evans each ran personal-bests in the One Mile Run in order to qualify for the Sunday run. Coffin ran in the top flight and ran the fourth-fastest time (4:55.54) of all the flights while Evans finished in fifth place overall with a time of 4:56.19 in the second flight.
Celestial Moon continued a successful freshman season by finishing the 800 Meter Run in 2:15.38 to qualify by just .06 for the finals.
Sarah Livett added another point for the Blazers in the 5,000 Meter Run with an eighth-place finish and a time of 17:26.30.
Coffin, Evans, Moon, and Lauren Capone added another third-place performance for the Blazers in the Distance Medley Relay (11:50.80).
The second and final day of the conference championships starts up tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. The Blazers enter the day with seven points. UTEP lead the women with 39 points.
