Blazers Take Winning Streak to Auburn for Non-Conference Clash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's basketball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when the Blazers travel to Auburn, Ala., to face in-state rival Auburn on the SEC Network.
UAB (6-3) registered its first road win of the season Tuesday with a strong second half en route to a 90-78 victory at Troy. Freshman Zack Bryant scored a career-high 19 points and Lewis Sullivan added 19 points and five rebounds off the bench to lead five Blazers in double figures.
Chris Cokley turned in his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Trojans. Cokley leads the Blazers with 17.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game and ranks fourth in Conference USA in scoring and first in rebounding. The Savannah, Ga., native is also 10th in the NCAA with five double-doubles.
Bryant ranks second for UAB with 14.3 points per game and senior William Lee adds 10.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game after pouring in 17 points and seven rebounds Tuesday at Troy.
Auburn (7-1) won its fifth consecutive game with an 80-55 victory over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. The only loss of the season for the Tigers is an 88-74 setback to Temple on Nov. 17 in the Gildan Charleston Classic.
Tiger junior Bryce Brown and sophomore Mustapha Heron lead the Auburn offense with 15.9 points per game apiece. Junior forward Desean Murray ranks third on the team with 10.5 points per game to go along with a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game. Both Jared Harper and Anfernee McLemore each score 10.1 points per game to round out the five Tigers who average double figures.
UAB and Auburn will meet on the hardwood for the 20th time in school history when the two teams battle on Saturday. The Blazers hold a 10-9 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1982-83 season. In the most recent meeting, Auburn posted a 74-70 victory last season in Birmingham behind 21 points and five rebounds from Harper.
Overall, Auburn has won the last four games between the two schools, but the last three matchups have been decided by a total of 11 points and an average of 3.7 per game.
UAB enters play against the Tigers sporting an all-time record of 84-23 and a .785 winning percentage against schools from the state of Alabama. The Blazers will also face Alabama A&M (Dec. 16) later this season in the BHM JAM at Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
