Blazers Face Alabama A&M Saturday at Legacy Arena in BHM JAM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's basketball team plays its third consecutive opponent from the state of Alabama when the Blazers face Alabama A&M Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Legacy Arena in the opening game of the inaugural BHM JAM.

UAB (6-4) has won three of its last four games and is a perfect 5-0 this season in games played in Birmingham. In addition, the Blazers have won all five games in the Magic City by double digits and are winning by an average of 29.4 points per game.
Senior forward Chris Cokley scored a career-high 26 points to go along with nine rebounds last Saturday at Auburn and ranks third in Conference USA in scoring (18.5 ppg) and first in rebounding (10.0 rpg). Freshman Zack Bryant adds 14.0 points per game and is second on the team with 30 assists.
William Lee ranks third on the team with 10.3 points per game and is second with 6.1 rebounds per game. The Selma, Ala., native also blocks 1.7 shots per game and is only 23 rejections shy of becoming UAB's all-time leader with 266.
As a team, UAB shot 23-for-26 from the free throw line at Auburn to record its sixth game of the season of at least 80 percent from the charity stripe. The Blazers enter their matchup with Alabama A&M on Saturday leading the NCAA with a .814 free throw percentage. UAB is also averaging more than 10.5 more rebounds than its opponents and ranks 10th in the NCAA in rebounding margin.
Alabama A&M (0-10) dropped a 69-54 decision at home to Southern Miss on Wednesday to run its losing streak to 10. The Bulldogs have lost nine of their 10 games by double digits and are dropping games by an average of 20.8 points per game.
Sophomore guard De'Ederick Petty paces the Alabama A&M offense with 12.9 points per game, while junior guard Arthur Johnson stands second on the team with 11.9 points per game to go along with 5.9 rebounds per game.
UAB and Alabama A&M will meet on the hardwood for the 11th time in school history when the two teams battle on Saturday. The Blazers are a perfect 10-0 all-time against the Bulldogs and has won by an average of 26.8 points per game. Most recently, UAB defeated Alabama A&M 75-45 last season behind 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocks from Lee.
UAB is 51-0 all-time against schools currently in the SWAC after going 3-0 against the league last season. In its most recent meeting against the conference, UAB defeated Southern 75-74 last season in overtime when Cokley hit the game-winning shot as time expired. The Blazers will face the league once more this season when UAB hosts Mississippi Valley State Dec. 23 at Bartow Arena
