KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UAB junior goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty continued to add to her growing list of postseason accolades on Thursday when she was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-America Third Team.

Daugherty is the first Blazer since Jill Porto in 2007 to be named a United Soccer Coaches Women's Scholar All-American and the fifth in program history.

Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-America recognition at the NCAA Division I level must meet the following criteria:

"These awards are always so special to receive because it truly embodies what our program is about," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "We want to be winners both on the field and off. Kelsey has made massive strides in her leadership ability and in showing her dedication to her studies. It has been 10 years since our program has won an award of this magnitude and I could not be happier for Kelsey and the direction of our program."

On the field, Daugherty served as one of the top keepers in the NCAA this season. She earned All-Conference USA First Team accolades after leading the league with a 0.76 goals against average and a .856 save percentage. The Kennesaw, Ga., native was also third in the conference with seven shutouts and 95 saves. In addition, Daugherty was tabbed the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week four times during the season.

"This is a special award because it shows the hard work put in both on and off the field," Daugherty said. "Our coaches always encourage us to get our academic work done and make it more of a priority than they do with practice. I probably studied more this semester than I ever have."

Overall, UAB (13-4-3, 7-2-1) finished one of its best seasons in school history and featured one of the top turnarounds in the NCAA, winning nine more games than all of last season and recording the most victories since 2004. In addition, the Blazers went from just one Conference USA win in 2016 to seven this season.

Players on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the All-America Luncheon on Jan. 20, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention.
