BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team hosts Florida Atlantic in its final home match of the season at Bartow Arena Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT for Senior Night.

The Blazers come into the match just one spot out of the conference tournament with the chance to make up some ground with a win over the Owls.

UAB is led into the match by its seniors with all five in the top six on the squad in kills. Gabby Deshotel leads the team with 317 kills, Haley Jared is second with 283, Erika Zembyla comes in third with 221, Petra Silic is fourth with 179 and Zahria Richard rounds out the group in sixth with 71 kills.

Zembyla leads the Blazers in service aces with 32 on the year, good for fifth in Conference USA, and is averaging 0.33 aces per set. Silic is first on the team and is eighth in C-USA in hitting percentage with a .337 average.

Jared and Deshotel have been equally strong on the defensive side of the ball as they are second and third respectively in digs. Deshotel is second in on the team with 223 while Jared is third with 211.

Freshman Shelby Holderfield leads the Blazers with 630 assists and is third in service aces with 20. Junior Emily Martinez is just one dig away from 400 on the season and leads UAB in the category while ranking third in C-USA as well as fourth in the conference in digs per set.

Florida Atlantic comes to Birmingham having won two of its last three matches, both in straight sets. The Owls are led by Sigourney Kame and Abbi Reid, who lead the team with 336 kills and 227 kills respectively.

Ivone Martinez is among the best in Conference USA in assists and leads Florida Atlantic with 1,028 assists and is averaging 12.85 per set.

UAB trails in the all-time series with Florida Atlantic 1-3 having won the first match up in 2013 but losing the last three meetings. Every meeting in the series has been decided in three sets.

Included in the Senior Night celebrations is SAAC Night, with the first 200 students through the doors will receive free tacos from Taco Mama.
