Blazers Softball Signs Five

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB head softball coach Amanda Ellis announced the addition of five newcomers as part of UAB's 2018 singing class on Wednesday afternoon.
"I am very excited about all five of these young ladies and the impact they will make on the future of UAB softball," head coach Amanda Ellis said. "They are all very talented and epitomize our values. We cannot wait until they join us in Birmingham. They will be a force on and off the field."
Sarah Cespedes, Charley Clark, Sadie Frazier, Sierra Frazier and Faith Hegh make up the Blazer signees. The class will be eligible to compete starting with the 2018-19 academic year.
UAB is heading into a new era under first year head coach Amanda Ellis after long time head coach Marla Townsend was promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Initiatives and Engagement. Ellis will become just the second head coach in UAB softball history.

Sarah Cespedes
Cespedes is a pitcher/first baseman from Sterrett, Ala. She helped lead Chelsea High School to the 2016 6A State Championship and was named the 6A State MVP. Cespedes has racked up the awards throughout her high school career. In 2015, AL.com Player of the Year and 2015 All-County First Team, while in 2016 she was named the Sportz Blitz Player of the Week, Shelby County Player of the Year and named to the All-Region Softball Team and to the 6A State First Team. In 2017, Cespedas was named to the 6A State Second Team, Birmingham All-Region Softball Team and to the All-County First Team. She has thrown two no-hitters for Chelsea in 2015 against Oxford and in 2016 against Pell City.
Charley Clark
Clark gives the Blazers its second Alabama native to sign with this 2018 class. The infielder hails from Jemison, Ala. and played her high school ball for Calera High School where she has played varsity since seventh grade. She holds the Calera High School record for home runs in a career and has been All-County honorable mention since 2013. Clark plays travel ball for the Birmingham Mustangs 99 and won ASA State in 2014 and 2016 advancing to the ASA Nationals in Oklahoma City. She helped the Mustangs place 2nd at the ASA Hall of Fame in 2015 and 5th in ASA Nationals in 2016.
Sadie Frazier
Frazier comes to the Blazers from Corona, Calif. and Santiago High School. The first baseman/outfielder has helped lead the Sharks to the playoffs in each of her first three seasons, making it to the third round of the California State Playoffs. She and her twin sister Sierra Frazier committed to UAB together.
Sierra Frazier
Frazier joins her twin sister Sadie in signing with UAB from from Corona, Calif and Santiago High School. The catcher helped Santiago reach the California State Playoffs in each of her first three seasons. Frazier was named All-CIF 2016, All-League in 2016-17 and was the Offensive Player of the Year in 2016-17. She holds the Santiago record for highest batting average at .619.
Faith Hegh
The Egg Harbor Township, N.J. native comes to the Blazers from Mainland Regional High School. She helped the Mustangs to the 2016 Conference Championship and has the single season school record for highest batting average, most triples and most steals. In 2017, she had a .600 hitting percentage with 48 hits, 37 RBI, 32 runs, four home runs, 13 doubles and seven stolen bases. She won her high schools Big Bat and Golden Glove award as a sophomore and junior. Most recently, she was named to the First Team All-Cape Atlantic League, Tri-Cape All-Star, First Team All-South Jersey and to the Third Team All-State team.
