Blazer Trio Named to C-USA All-Academic First Team

IRVING, Texas – Junior Kelsey Daugherty, senior Rachel Green and sophomore Megan Hudgens were each selected to the Conference USA All-Academic First Team presented by InTouch Credit Union, the league office announced on Thursday.
Student-athletes much have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore and and serve as a starter or key reserve. UAB's three selections are tied with Charlotte for the most on the first team and are tied for the most in school history in a single season. In addition, it's the only time in school history the Blazers have placed one than more on the first team.
Daugherty owns a 3.71 grade point average in kinesiology and served as one of the top keepers in the NCAA this season. In fact, Daugherty earned All-Conference USA First Team accolades after leading the league with a 0.76 goals against average and a .856 save percentage. The Kennesaw, Ga., native was also second in the conference with seven shutouts and 95 saves.
Green features a 3.76 grade point average in marketing and was selected to the All-Conference USA Second Team. She started all 19 games and ranked third on the team with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Additionally, she was tied for ninth in Conference USA in goals and was fourth in the league with three game-winning goals. The Peachtree City, Ga., native was also selected as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week once during the season.
Hudgens boasts and 4.0 grade point average in finance and proved to be one of the best scoring threats in Conference USA. A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Hudgens was second on the team with 19 points on seven goals and a team-leading five assists. Hudgens started all 20 games at forward and helped the UAB offense finish the season with 21 more goals than it did in the previous season.
Overall, UAB (13-4-3, 7-2-1) finished one of its best seasons in school history and featured one of the top turnarounds in the NCAA, winning nine more games than all of last season and recording the most victories since 2004. In addition, the Blazers went from just one Conference USA win in 2016 to seven this season.
Head Coach Erica Demers set a school record for wins by a first-year head coach with 13, surpassing the previous record of 12 set by Paul Harbin in 1996.
