DENTON, Texas – Blazers volleyball falls in three sets (16-25, 12-25, 19-25) to North Texas on Friday night at the Volleyball Center as the Mean Green took control early and did not look back.
UAB (9-11, 3-2 C-USA) struggled offensively throughout the night as errors kept it from gaining any type of rhythm. The Blazers committed 19 attack errors; eight in the first set, which saw North Texas win 25-16.
The Green and Gold cut down on the errors in the second set but still had five attack errors, which stifled the offense. Again, the Mean Green capitalized and won the second set 25-12. The Blazers fought hard in the third set but dropped it 19-25 as North Texas won the match in straight sets.
Gabby Deshotel was a bright spot for UAB getting 14 kills on the night. She now has a team high 229 kills this season. Erika Zembyla racked up six kills for the Blazers while Emma Mitchell tallied five kills. Shelby Holderfield led the way in assists with 31 while Emily Martinez led UAB in digs with 10.
Holderfield broke the 300-assist mark and now has a team leading 316 assists. Martinez is just 30 digs away from 300 on the season as she currently sits at 270.
North Texas (17-2, 4-1) was extremely efficient as it had a .434 attack percentage on the night. Holly Milam led the Mean Green with 12 kills and Amanda Chamberlain had 10 kills. North Texas also scored seven
aces to UAB's two.
