Men’s Soccer Hosts Florida Atlantic to Continue Homestand

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team welcomes Florida Atlantic on Saturday night in the second match of a three game homestand. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. from BBVA Compass Field.
UAB (4-5-3, 0-4-1) is coming off a 2-1 victory over Georgia Southern on Oct. 17. With one match left against Lipscomb, the Blazers are looking to remain unbeaten in non-conference home games this season.
James Teal continues to be the storyline for the Blazers. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native has racked up 18 saves in the previous three games matching his career high of six in each one. Among freshmen keepers in the NCAA this season he ranks fourth in total saves (49), seventh in save percentage (.766) and ninth in saves per game (4.1).
Offensively Massimo Ferrin has been a dominant force for UAB. He leads the team in goals (5) and points (11). In the Conference USA ranks he is tied for fifth in goals and tied for seventh in shots per game.
Florida Atlantic enters the contest with a 1-11-0 overall record but with its lone win coming against C-USA foe South Carolina. The Eagles ranks last in the league in shots (90), points (23), goals (8), goals per game (0.7), assists (7), assists per game (0.6), goals allowed (32), goals against average (2.6) shutouts (2) and corner kicks (37).
Carlos Sanchis leads the Florida Atlantic offense with five goals this season and 10 points. Aaron Larenneto has pitched in with two assists.
Daniel Ragoo has played the most of the Eagles' three goalies this season picking up 20 saves in 476:33 minutes.
UAB and Florida Atlantic are meeting for the seventh time in program history with UAB holding a 4-2-0 advantage. The Eagles won the last match 1-0 in double overtime at Glades Road Soccer Field on Oct. 1, 2016.
Saturday night is a special one as UAB hosts its annual 'Hounds on the Hill' event. Fans are encouraged to bring their four legged friends. Representatives will on hand from the Birmingham Humane Society with dogs and cats available for adoption.
