UAB Hosts Blazer Invite & Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s track and field team hosts two events this weekend at the Birmingham Crossplex. The Blazers welcomes 16 teams on Friday and begin running at 10 a.m. for the Blazer Invite before hosting 24 teams on Saturday for the Vulcan Invite starting at 8:00 a.m. Admission is free for both days to the general public.
“I think the girls are chomping at the bit to compete,” said head coach Kurt Thomas. “That’s why we’re here and that’s why we do what we do. This first event is about shaking the rust off and getting the competitive juices flowing. We always want to compete well and compete hard but everybody is in the same boat in terms of coming back from break and not being sharp yet. This meet is about shaking that rust off and getting sharp.”

The Blazers have competed once this season at the Birmingham-Southern Icebreaker on December 2, 2016. The Green & Gold had a number of strong performances highlighted by a first-place finish by Shelbi White in the 60 Meter Dash. Four other Blazers scored in the event.
