MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Abbie Brown scored twice and netted the game-winning goal to lead Middle Tennessee to a 4-2 victory over the UAB women’s soccer team Sunday afternoon in the Conference USA opener from Hayes Stadium.
UAB (3-5-0, 0-1-0) scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute when Jessica Do registered her third of the season. Freshman Megan Hudgens dribbled down the right side of the field and delivered a pass to her left that found a streaking Do.
Brown answered six minutes later with a goal off a cross from Courteney Gibson to pull the Blue Raiders even. Amber Hoot put Middle Tennessee (3-4-1, 1-0-0) ahead 2-1 midway through the half when her shot from outside the box found the top corner of the UAB goal.
Do netted the equalizer minutes into the second half after Rachel Green sent a through ball past the Middle Tennessee defense that hit Do in stride for a shot that beat Blue Raider keeper Sydney Chalcraft. Green now leads the team with four assists.
Brown broke the tie in the 72nd minute with a header inside the Blazer box following a free kick from Sydney Navarro. The Blue Raiders tacked on another goal in the 85th minute on Salera Jordan’s third of the season.
UAB keeper Kelsey Daugherty tallied a season-high nine saves and ranks fifth in Conference USA.
The Blazers return to the pitch Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. when UAB returns home to host UTEP from BBVA Compass Field.
